The Bypass Valve: A Tutorial

The Bypass Valve: A Tutorial

The Bypass valve is a control located on the handle on both the GrillGun and SuVGun that, as the name suggests, bypasses the control valve and allows the gas flow to be opened to full throttle. In essence, instead of bringing up your torch to it's highest setting, it allows you to take your lit torch and hold it open on full blast in an instant. But with great flame, comes great responsibility...

The Bypass Valve is not meant to be used during the ignition, or lighting state, when using the torch. The flame that is created when lighting the torch is delicate... When lighting the torch, it only needs a trickle of gas to ignite. Otherwise, the gas will blow out the pilot flame before it can start. It's exceedingly difficult to light the torch with max, or high, fuel output. This is often a bit confusing, especially when you first pick up a Grillgun or SuVGun, and press the squeeze handle for the first time. You hear a rush of gas, excitedly pull the trigger... and then look with disappointment at the empty firebell

To light the torch, one must use a little finesse. Try opening the Red Knob 1/16th to 1/8th of a turn, and then pull the trigger. The red control knob is a much more delicate control than the bypass valve. When properly opened it should get you a consistent ignition in one or two clicks. Once your torch is lit and your flame is blue, press down on the bypass trigger lock with your pinkie finger, and then squeeze the handle to open it up to full blast!

If you ever have an issue with the bypass lock, make sure that the metal pinkie lock is not twisted or crushed within the handle casing. If your pinkie lock is damaged or snapped off, it is best to reach out to our customer service team. If the gun is ever stuck with the bypass valve open due to a damaged pinkie lock, carefully point the gun in a safe direction and remove the fuel source. DO NOT TRY TO SHUT OFF THE FLOW WITH THE RED CONTROL KNOB.  The bypass valve is exactly that.... a bypass to the regular control valve. Closing the control knob will have no affect on the gun while the bypass valve is open. To prevent issues, always check to make sure the pinkie lock has not sustained damage or has bent inside the housing before using the bypass valve.
